Subscription Boxes

Subscription Boxes

The gift that keeps giving throughout the year!

How many times have you been asked “What do you want for your birthday/Christmas/anniversary, etc.?” And how many of those times did you reply, “I don’t really need anything” or “I don’t know”? There’s been a huge rise in the popularity of “experience gifts” and “subscription” gifts the past few years because it’s true ~ most people buy what they need when they need it throughout the year and it makes gift giving so hard!

One of the things Sam and I started giving our family and friends were “experience gifts” or “subscription gifts”. I love these 2 gift-giving ideas because not only do you have the excitement of opening something on the special day (we always print off a certificate or brochure of whatever the experience is) but you also get a second fun day of doing the actual experience! For a subscription gift, you get a little bit of fun every month! Even better!

Some of the experiences we have given are: a cooking class, driving a race car, Segway tour, ziplining, axe-throwing, and a murder mystery dinner. Groupon and Living Social are the best places to find fun activities to gift! Subscription gifts are usually pricier because it’s not a one-time event, but you can sometimes find these on Groupon as well. We’ve given subscriptions for tea boxes, candy boxes, and a children’s activity box.

The box of joy 🙂

But today, I wanted to share with you this AMAZING subscription box that I received for Christmas – Universal Yums! It’s a box that comes once a month with a variety of snacks and candies from a specific country. Each month is a surprise, but you are given clues the previous month to try and guess where the box will be from. There are 6-8 types of food with enough of each type to share. There is also a colorful booklet that gives trivia for the country, an explanation of each food included, and fun facts about customs and the people who live there. My whole day gets instantly better when I open the mailbox and see a Yums box! 🙂

This apricot cake was my favorite from Poland!
